I attended Stitches Midwest 2002 from August 23 to 25, 2002.
Classes I took:
Discover Estonian Knitting with Nancy Bush
No Gauge Shawls & Scarves with Margaret Radcliffe
Knitting on the Edge with Melissa Leapman
Color Design in Fair Isle with Melissa Leapman
Discover Estonian Knitting with Nancy Bush
What a great class! This was my first class of Stitches. It was an all day
class and we learned a new cast-on, which was the hardest part of the class.
She gave us a bag pattern to learn all of the different techniques, my
completed bag will be on my website. Through that bag, we
learned nupps (noo-ps) (little nubs on the work that are really cool, but
they are not boobles), a single-color horizontal braid, a two-color
horizontal braid and several other braids.
No Gauge Shawls & Scarves with Margaret Radcliffe (Maggie's Rags)
This class should have been titled - Design your own shawls. We learned so
much in this class. I started a shawl out of the merino wool that I bought
at Interlacements (the 1100 yards for $24). It's turning out beautifully. We
also learned a lot about the concepts in designing our own shawls.
Knitting on the Edge with Melissa Leapman
In this class, we learned several different edges that were very cool. I
learned how to do a hem, which I had always thought was much more difficult
than it actually is. We also learned how to do knitted in fringe, which was
too cool. Let's see what other edgings did we do - a booble-lace edge and
right now I can't remember the others. I'll have to post them later.
Color Design in Fair Isle Knitting with Melissa Leapman
We learned about what color patterns look good together and how to design
our own. Also about the design elements of a fair isle pattern. After this
class, I am ready to go home and design a little fair isle band for a vest
that I made about two months after I started knitting that I ripped out
about a year ago because it was too short and the neck and armholes were
puckering weirdly.
I met Cheryl Oberle at the Stitches Market and she signed my
Folk Shawls
book.

Saturday at the Student Fashion show. I showed off my green Kidsilk Haze sweater and the Susan scarf.
