projects

Finished the front of the Rebecca Fisherman’s Rib top. Blocked the back last night, will do the front tonight. Saturday night, I sewed one side and underarm seam on the Odessa sweater. It only took me two and a half hours. :) I watched two episodes of Trading Spaces for two of those hours.

I got all of my needles, yarn, patterns and projects entered into NeedleTrax this weekend! I received it on Friday and spent a good part of the weekend entering things. I figured, “oh, I’ll just put in yarn that I currently have” but when I went in to put all of my projects from August 2000 to now, I had to put in all of the older yarn. Thank goodness for my knitting journal. I realized that I have 9 projects in the works right now - 3 of them are socks. With the Fisherman’s top almost finished and the Odessa sweater that would take me down to 7 projects. I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of my projects, like which one do I work on and just feeling like I’m buried in projects.

I’m at work right now. I caught the train this morning and now I’m really tired. I knitted on the clouds blanket this morning and only got about 5 rows done, 5 rows on that blanket is a fair amount for the time I was in transit. I also brought the Brittany jumper to work on at lunch and on my way home if I don’t want to work on the blanket. I have too many ends and too many bobbins hanging off the blanket right now. It took me a while to untangle everything this morning, maybe I need to put two in a plastic bag together and then just have pairs in the little bags. I wonder if that would help?
I probably should get some work done today. I’m really wanting a nap right now.

Fisherman’s Rib

Worked on Rebecca Fisherman’s Rib until late last night. I was also trying to get my blog page up and running the way I want it. I have 7 inches of the front finished (the back is 17.5 inches), then all I have to do is the turtleneck collar. :) Yeah! :) I’ve only been working on it for two weeks, but it seems like a lot longer. The last three weeks have been an eternity. I can’t believe that Grandma died just three weeks ago. It seems like months. I’m glad that she got to see me working on the Regia cotton socks for her. She even got to try the first one on. I was sewing the toe to the second sock at the airport in Kansas City. She slipped into a coma about an hour later. Mom was going to give the socks to her on Thursday, but she never got to wear them. Now Mom is wearing the socks proudly just the way I know Grandma would.

I took an inventory of the projects that are in the planning stages, I have quite a few more than I remember having. It’s the “I don’t have that much yarn at home” syndrome.

PIPSs (projects in planning stages)
* Twinset from Lang Fatto a Mano #138
yarn: Rowan DK Tweed in pink (top) and blue (cardigan)

* Georgia cardigan (shown here as a pullover) (scroll till you find “Georgia”)
yarn: Rowan DK Soft in light blue

* Star in WeeKnits Too (it’s the sweater on the cover of the book)
yarn: Mission Falls 1824 Cotton

* Mittens - yarn: Zara

* Hobo in Jaeger Magazine Five (scroll to find Hobo)
yarn: Lane Borgosesia Bollicina

* from Stahman’s Shawls & Scarves
* Barbara shawl - yarn: Jaeger Cashmere
* Susan and Anne scarves - yarn: Lane Borgosesia Bollicina

So I guess I’d better get working! :)

Knit night

Went to Knit Night tonight. It was a small group of the regulars, which was nice. I worked on the Rebecca Fisherman’s Rib and we figured out that to make the cross pattern look right, I shouldn’t follow the pattern. How annoying! But at least it looks good now. I had to rip out about two inches, but at least I like the way it looks. I got home and have been knitting on it for about two inches more than I came home with. I’m thinking about making another Rebecca pattern out of the Samoa. We’ll see, I think I need to stick with what I’m working on right now. :)

Take your kids to work day

I keep trying to post this and keep losing my blog because the internet is all clogged up from the kids that are here at work for “Take Your Kids To Work Day.”

I gave the dress to Micki on Tuesday. I hope that it fits. She’ll let me know on Monday after she sees her granddaughter. I knitted during the Division Meeting on Tuesday. I needed something to keep my mind from wandering and my eyelids from drooping, knitting helps me concentrate. I wish that I could knit in every meeting. Maybe I should work for a knitting magazine since they all knit during meetings. :)

One of my now former students is going to make a toddler girl’s cardigan. I told her that I would create the top-down raglan, in-the-round pattern for her using the Sweater Wizard software. It’s my first sweater using the software, so I hope it turns out cute. She’s going to use Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece. She said she’ll be coming in the store to pick out the color. I’m really excited so see how it turns out.

WIPs:
* Rebecca Fisherman’s Rib top.
Completed back. Worked on front to 5 cm and then started the cross pattern. I don’t like the way it looks at the moment, but I’m sure it will look better as I get further into it.

* Brittany jumper
Worked on this during the Division meeting on Tuesday. I have about 2.25 inches worth of stockinette finished, only 4.25 inches to go till I start ribbing for the bodice of the dress. It’s going quite fast because it’s straight stockinette in the round.

* Moo blanket
I haven’t worked on this during the week. I will work on it more this weekend.

* Socks from same yarn that I made Grandma’s socks (Regia plus Cotton in Las Vegas)
I started on a 12 inch, size 2 circular needle and by the time I got to the heel I didn’t like the way it looked. I think 60 stitches on a 12 inch circular needle was the problem. I completely ripped it out. I decided to use the Priscilla’s Dream Socks pattern. I got to the heel and didn’t have a problem with the short row heel until I was almost finished. I realized that I had five extra pairs of stitches on one side that I didn’t have on the other side. :( Oh well, so I have to take out the heel, no big deal.

* Maggie from Rowan Magazine 31 in Kidsilk Haze
Worked on this Tuesday night and Wednesday night. I knitted about 20 rows on Tuesday and 8 rows on Wednesday. I’m about 2.5 inches from the armhole shaping, I think.

PIPs (projects in pieces)
* Incense sweater in Jaeger Odessa
The raglan sleeves have been sewn to the body since the middle of March. I sewed one of the side seams Tuesday night but towards the sleeve it was way off! I think maybe watching the Osbourne’s had something to do with it. :) So I ripped out the seam and I’ll work on it later. Now that it’s getting warmer, I don’t care if I finish it, but I NEED to finish it so that I can have it for next fall. It’s not a sweater that needs to take me a year to do with more than six months of it being the sewing the seams together.

WIPs

I’m waiting on Micki to stop by my desk to pick up the little dress. I want to get this done, I want to know if it fits!

WIPs:
* Rebecca Fisherman’s Rib top.
Finished back of top. Started front - about 1 inch finished.

* Brittany jumper
Sat down and made myself get through the slip 2 knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitches over. Once I got past the first row it was smooth knitting. So smooth that I got all of the lacy part finished and about 1 1/2 inches of straight stockinette done. I think it’s going to go quite fast. I want to get it done so that Katherine can start wearing it.

* Moo blanket
Worked on a fair amount on Saturday. I’ve mostly figured out intarsia. It looks really good, I’m quite proud of myself.

* Started pair of socks out of the same yarn that I made Grandma’s socks out of. I got most of the ribbing done.

* Started second sock to match my first Regia sock - finished all of ribbing and 1/2 inch of stockinette.

Didn’t work on either of the Kidsilk Haze sweaters this weekend. I want to work on the Rebecca Fisherman’s top because it’s going SO fast! The bigger needles help (I’m using size 10 1/2) I started 13 days ago and considering everything else I’ve been doing, I think I’ll be finished by the middle of May! I would like to get the Kidsilk Haze sweater, Maggie, finished. I only have 4 inches finished on the back - I need to get working.

Marine dress

I completely finished the little white Marine dress on Thursday, April 18. I wanted Micki to get it yesterday, but she didn’t show up at my desk.

I finished my first toe-up sock on Thursday, April 18. It’s cute, it has little mock cables around the ankle. I sent the photo of the sock to Tracy Bunkers, who make the yarn and the pattern for the socks. She replied to me saying that she would put it in her gallery the next time she updates her page. Very cool! :)

Last night I worked on the baby blanket for Becky’s son. Also worked on the Fisherman’s Rib top - about 75% finished with the back.

Okay, I want to cry

Okay, I want to cry. Micki just told me that the little dress I’ve made for her granddaughter is too small. I’m working my butt off to get the dress done and the little girl hasn’t even tried it on yet. I hope that I’m sweating up a storm over nothing. Last night sewed the collar onto the dress.
