Karla’s sweater

I did a lot of work (approx. 4 1/2″ (11 cm)) on Karla’s sweater last night. I have started increasing for the top part of the body and should start shaping for the armholes in about 2″ (5 cm)! It’s going really quickly. I feel like I just started it and I’m moving along quite well on it. It helps that I’m knitting it on size US 9 (5 1/4mm) needles.

I finished the first sleeve of the Lang cardigan! Now I just need to cast on stitches for the second sleeve and knit it. I’m probably going to work the collar and button bands before I start the second sleeve. I’m doing it a bit out of order, but I’m bored with knitting it. It seems like it took me a long time to do the first sleeve, but in looking at my calendar it only took two and a half weeks. I should have the whole sweater finished by the end of March, that’s my goal for right now. If I get it done quicker than that, then that’s just that much sooner that I get to actually wear it. :)

I started the “Rosier” dress to match the little sweater. I have about an inch completed, it’s the little lacy pattern at the bottom of the dress.
During lunch today, I crocheted the little scalloped edging along the bottom of each sleeve of the sweater. Now I just have to crochet the collar and the bottom. I think if I crochet tonight at Knit Night I should be able to finish it! :) Then I would only have to put the buttons on. I want to have it completely finished so that I don’t have to worry about doing any finishing on the sweater when I finish the dress.

Rosier and Lang

I completely finished putting the “Rosier” sweater together. It is SO adorable! I need to do the crocheting around the edges. It’s not at the top of my priority list right now because it looks really cute even without the crocheted edge.

I knit several more inches on the sleeve of the Lang cardigan. I’m finally binding off for the top of the sleeve. This sleeve feels like it’s taken me forever.I had to rip out two inches of Karla’s sweater because I did the decreasing for the waist too quickly. So I’m almost back to where I was when I had to rip out.

I’m going to try to start the “Rosier” dress soon. The sooner I start, the sooner I’ll have it done and can get it sent to Shannon for the new baby. :)

projects, dinner & classes

Happy 30th birthday Brandi! :)

An interesting weekend. It wasn’t a usual weekend at all. It could have been a day longer, as usual! :)

Friday night, I worked on the “Rosier” sweater that I’ve been working on for a while. I watched the usual Friday evening NBC lineup – Mr. Sterling, Dateline and Law & Order: SVU. I went to bed early (for me) and slept a full 8 hours. It was great and I felt so refreshed when I woke up. My plan was to get my apartment picked up and organized and it didn’t happen. I did get the piles of laundry out of my living room. They are now waiting to be folded. :) At least, they are clean! I thought my new lamps might prompt me to get my living room whipped into shape, but I just didn’t feel like doing a lot on Saturday. I just wanted to knit and do laundry. I got a lot of knitting done – I finished the second sleeve of the “Rosier” sweater. I also watched an episode of “Christina Cooks” and several episodes of “Trading Spaces,” “While You Were Out,” “A Dating Story,” and “A Makeover Story.” Thank goodness for TLC on Saturdays. :) Laundry seemed to keep my very busy since I felt like I had about 45 minutes to wait for each load.

I went out with Brandi and Toby for the evening (see 8 Feb 2003 post).

Sunday, I got up about 9:30am and watched the political talk shows – “ABC News: This Week” and “Meet the Press.” I sewed one side seam of the “Rosier” sweater together while watching these shows. I’ve sewn most of the seams together, except for one side seam. I updated my sweater page and created a page for the “Rebecca” sweater that I finished in mid-January. Then I went to the Knitting Workshop for about 45 minutes and picked up stitches on the “Rosier” sweater for the collar. I’ve knit the seed stitch collar, it just needs to be bound off. Then I have to do the crocheting around the edge. Then went out to Bryan’s for dinner. We made vegetarian chili for dinner. His dad, his brother, Jeff, and his nephew, Michael also came over for dinner. I got to see Bryan’s new apartment. It’s a cute place and there is no potential to hit your head on the slanted ceilings. We watched “The Atomic Cafe” last night, it’s a documentary that’s all propoganda about the atomic bomb and the mid-1940s to the early 1950s. It was really good.

I’ve finally posted my list of 110 Things About Me. :)

I have about three inches done on Karla’s sweater. It’s going quite fast for now. I’m sure once I get going on it, it will start to feel like it’s taking a while, maybe not.

I’m teaching my beginning class tonight. They are going to learn how to bind off, cast on and do ribbing. This is always an interesting class. I can tell some get really frustrated with casting on, but by the time they’ve cast on stitches several times, they are pretty comfortable with it.

Currently for my listening enjoyment: (you can always find what I’m listening to at my listening to page)
Tanya Donnelly – beautysleep
Emiliana Torrini – Love In The Time of Science
Grant Lee Phillips – Mobilize
Kristen Hersh – WIP 1 from the Throwing Music site

I also finished Momo by Michael Ende on Sunday night!

Rosier sweater

I finished the “Rosier” sweater! I finished it this morning. I’ve already blocked it and it’s ready to be sewn together. I think I might do that tomorrow morning while I’m watching the Sunday morning talk shows.I started Karla’s sweater this afternoon. I figured the sooner I start it the sooner I’ll finish it. I really want to get it to her by the middle of March so that she can wear it while it’s still cool out. The money would also come in handy. I’ve already finished about an inch and a half of the ribbing on the back piece.

Barbara scarf finally finished

I finished the Barbara scarf last night at Knit Night. I also blocked the scarf so tomorrow I’ll pick it up from the store, take a bunch of photos and then send it off to my mom. I’m finally finished with Christmas gifts. Yeah!

The “Rosier” sweater is coming along nicely. I’m more than 1/3 of the way through the second sleeve. I’ve gotten a lot done tonight. Fridays can be very productive. I hope to finish the sleeve either tomorrow or Sunday.I’m tired right now and I’m watching “Cheers” on Nick @ Nite. I think I’m going to go to bed. My eyes are heavy and I’ve been tired all week. It’s so tempting to stay up all night and knit, but sleeping is more important right now.

finally have photos on project page

I just loaded photos on my current projects page. I can’t tell if they look okay or not because my computer monitor at work makes everything look so dark. The “Hobo” sweater doesn’t look like it has any cables on the top and bottom. The “Rosier” sweater looks like four red blobs on the wood. If they look bad, please tell me. I also loaded up the miscellaneous other knitted projects page. Unfortunately, only a few of the images loaded properly. I need to reload them correctly tonight.

I got quite a bit done on the Barbara scarf. Yeah! I have one more lace pattern repeat to do and then 8 rows of seed stitch. Then I get to block it! I’m so glad that I’m finally done with it. It looks beautiful, but having to redo it has been such a headache. Another project that I can add to my completed list! Then on to finishing the “Rosier” jacket! Only one more sleeve. I love it when things all start to finish around the same time. Now if the Lang cardigan will cooperate, I can get it done within the next month too. :) I really, really, really need to start and complete Karla’s sweater. I have the yarn swatched and I’ve rewritten the Rowan pattern that it’s based on, so it’s just a matter of working on it. I have been putting it off until I finish the Barbara scarf, but since that’s going to be finished at Knit Night tonight, I can start Karla’s sweater this weekend.

We had the quarterly meeting today at work about how 2002 was for the company. It’s always fairly entertaining because they don’t tell us what the profit-sharing numbers are going to be until the very end and they always do something fun to drag it out. So I went to the meeting and knitted through it. I found myself concentrating better than I normally do in meetings. I wasn’t looking around and looking at people or watching the clock. I just wish that it was appropriate for me to take my knitting to every meeting that I go to. It would keep my stress levels down a bit. :)

Enjoy your Thursday!

Accomplished since post on 5 February.

  • knitted 2 lace pattern repeats on the Barbara scarf
  • knitted 3 inches (7.6 cm) on Lang cardigan, started shaping the top of the sleeve
  • cast on stitches for the second sleeve on the “Rosier” sweater and worked three rows of garter stitch
