digging into the stash

It’s been a long time since I last wrote in my knitting blog. I have been doing some knitting though! I started another pair of baby socks in mid-May, I guess I mentioned that in my last post. So I started the socks on May 5. I finished them about a week ago on June 23. I will be sending them to the new mom soon.

I just finished one of two fun scarves for my mom. I’m using yarn that I got as a door prize at Stitches Midwest last year. I have a hard time giving things away, especially yarn. The pattern says to work the two yarns together and I totally didn’t like the look. So I decided to just make two different scarves. I think she’ll really like them. I finished the first one last night and I’ll probably finish the second one either while I’m in Kansas this weekend or shortly after we get back. I can’t wait to get home to Kansas for the holiday weekend, even though we’ll be working on assembling wedding invitations. It will be fun though! :)

I was looking through my knitting basket last weekend figuring out what I have in there and I realized that I have a top and a cardigan that just need to be sewn together. So they don’t need a lot of work, but I should finish them. I’m sure they would get done if I would just sit down and do it. The “Joy” top in Rowan’s Cotton Tape just needs a side seam sewn. It wouldn’t take me long at all. And the Lang cardigan needs about four rows of the second button band, one side seam needs to be sewn, and I need to sew second sleeve to body. I was also finding several projects that I started and lost interest in but know they would be beautiful, if I finished them – the “Pagan” top in Rowan’s Calmer and “Petula” in Rowan’s Linen Drape. I also have a pair of socks that I started in February 2001 that just need the toe decreasing done. It’s not hard but I just can’t make myself do it. I also need to get cracking on the Giraffe blanket if I’m going to get it done by the time the baby is one. I have a little over six months! :) I really think that the wedding and all of the planning that goes into it, plus my new interest in rubber stamping and scrapbooking have really distracted me from knitting. I also don’t sit in front of the tv every night, like I used to. Meeting Bryan slowed my knitting down a bit – I had someone that I wanted to spend time with. I’m sure that teaching in the fall will get me motivated again!

Speaking of teaching here are my confirmed classes. They are all beginning classes for right now and then next spring, I’ll expand them to intermediate classes. I will be teaching papermaking classes and knitting classes. Tuesdays, I’ll be teaching adult and children’s classes at the Buffalo Grove Park District. Wednesdays, I’ll be at Stephenson High School’s Continuing Ed program and Thursdays, I’ll be at Vernon Hills High School’s Continuing Ed program. So I will be very busy starting September 30. I will be back from my honeymoon only two days before I start teaching. I’m excited to be doing classes again.

For the last three months, I’ve been teaching private lessons, which are really fun. I really like private lessons because I feel like I’m able to give my students the extra attention that sometimes they need. I’m also able to really focus on what they need as far as lessons go. They also get to pace themselves and if they want to wait several weeks between lessons, it’s not a problem. I know some people have a hard time fitting homework into their busy schedules. I also get to know my students on a much more personal level.

I hope to keep up better with this blog, especially since I don’t want to get dropped from the Knitter’s Blog Ring again. I tend to neglect it because I’m so focused on my up to and cards blogs.
