The last day of 2007

New Year’s Eve is always an interesting day. Thinking about what has happened over the past year, dreaming of what will be in the year to come and then realizing tomorrow isn’t going to be much different it’s just a number. It’s sort of exciting to think of tomorrow being a fresh start, more of a fresh start than today was. Today we’ve had a relaxing and busy day. We decided to stay in this year for New Year’s Eve. I started an Italian loaf last night, made the bread dough this morning, started a loaf of wheat sandwich bread for Bryan and decided to try a new pizza crust. After three batches of dough, my food processor decided it needed a break. I had a lovely lunch with S and went to her house for tea afterwards. Bryan has enjoyed just reading on the couch most of the day.

We wish you all a happy and healthy 2008!
More of my year.
Two-thousand-seven was a year that was exciting and sad for us. The year started with a big trip to Seattle for the ALA (American Library Association) Midwinter Conference in mid-January. There we met some friends of Bryan’s and toured the city. It was an absolute blast. February brought exciting news of my acceptance to library grad school and in May Bryan completed his Master’s in Library Science. I started school in August and was so proud of myself for sticking through the semester. The deaths of my Aunt Nan and G-pa were difficult but I managed to complete my first semester with better grades than I was expecting.
This was the year that I was going to create my own Knitter’s Almanac based on Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Knitter’s Almanac knitting a theme each month. January was a success as sweater month. It was a month of high goals while also very satisfying. February was sock month with a lot of unattained goals but no less satisfying than January. I was sidetracked by the winter weather and decided to spin and knit myself a pair of fingerless gloves. March was lace month and I had a lot of fun with it, knitting a lace doily for the coffee table and starting a lace nightie. April was a big challenge for me, I wanted to knit a lace shawl in a matter of a month. Amazingly enough, I did manage to knit a small shawl for myself while working on a Moderne baby blanket. Around May, I completely got sidetracked with baby items and sewing. Since it was so hot, sewing was much more fun and cooler than knitting. It was definitely the Summer of Sewing. I managed to sew up quite a few skirts along with several bags. In September, the weather was cooler and I knitted the February Baby Sweater from The Knitter’s Almanac. October was the annual festival of socks, Socktoberfest, and I participated by finishing a long overdue pair of socks and starting a new pair. In November, I decided to finish what I had started earlier in the year working on the Martha sweater and the Waving Lace socks. Not even half way through the month did I suffer from startitis and started the Tweedy Vest. When December rolled around, I was not going to knit any Christmas gifts but when it came right down to it, I decided to start a pair of socks for my sister. I started and finished the first of the pair of Anniversary Socks from the Favorite Socks book. She opened them on Christmas and loved them. I’m hoping to finish the second sock before school starts in two weeks.
It’s been an interesting year. Here’s to an even more wonderful 2008!
