Gifting

The annual Knit Night gift giving was about three weeks ago. All of the gifts were handmade or home baked and were so wonderful. I love how they were all so beautifully crafty yet so practical. My gift was a collaboration with my great friend Laura from a pattern from Last Minute Patchwork Gifts. We started the week before Thanksgiving planning and set up an afternoon for cutting and a tiny bit of fabric shopping. From less than an eighth of a yard we were able to make a little bird.

They were so fun to make that we ended up making a whole flock.

I hope that everyone had wonderful holidays. Ours were jam packed with visiting family and moving Bryan into our new house.

My parents are about twenty minutes from our house so we were able to get a lot of cleaning out done while we were there. This was my aunt’s house and my mother simply hasn’t had time to clean out the house so we spent a fair amount of our visit over Christmas cleaning out the kitchen and several closets. Bryan made countless trips to Goodwill and we know there is still more to be done.

We had a lovely Christmas with my parents, grandmother and uncle. Spending time with family is so wonderful and I look forward to being able to spend more time with my family after I’ve moved to Kansas.

In November, my friend Sarah taught me how to make these great kaleidoscope quilt squares and I immediately decided to make a Christmas table runner for my mother. It turned out beautifully and was such a fun gift to make. I still have enough cut triangles to make twelve more kaleidoscope stars. Another table runner for myself is in the planning stages.

Last weekend, we made another trip to Kansas to get Bryan moved in. He started his new job this past Wednesday at one of the local libraries as the new Assistant Branch Manager. He’s a real live working librarian and after three days I can tell he loves his job.

I’ve been learning to be a temporary single girl again. Before Bryan left I had big plans to get a lot of reading done and so much knitting done too but I find myself browsing the web more than I had originally planned. Skype has been a life-saver for us and I can knit while we talk.

My friends have been wonderful to get me out of the house. Last night I was exposed to the cool toy, otherwise known as the Wii. I’ve not been a video game person for a long time but after over four hours of four girls playing Wii Fit, I’m totally sold.
